Six working groups govern and carry the work of the North Texas Muslim Leadership Alliance. Each is led by a chair and a vice chair drawn from the membership.
Working groups
The Alliance is run by committee. Members may serve on any working group; chairs and vice chairs are drawn from the membership.
The Elections & Endorsements Working Group evaluates key races and candidates, coordinates candidate engagement and screening, and determines where NTMLA should focus its political support and invest its resources. The group develops recommendations on which candidates to endorse, support, fundraise for, or not support, and helps coordinate community engagement around priority races and endorsed candidates.
The Masjid Coordination Working Group brings together mosques and Islamic institutions across the Dallas–Fort Worth area to strengthen communication, collaboration, and coordination across the Muslim community. The group works to build relationships between masjid leadership, share information and resources, coordinate community-wide initiatives, reduce duplication of efforts, and create opportunities for institutions to work together on shared priorities. Its goal is to foster greater unity, alignment, and collective effectiveness among DFW masajid while respecting the independence of each institution.
The Research & Public Education Working Group develops accurate, well-researched, and accessible materials to support NTMLA’s advocacy and public engagement. The group produces reports, policy briefs, fact sheets, presentations, and visual resources; reviews data and sources for accuracy; helps refine language for policymakers and the public; and works with academics, attorneys, and subject-matter experts when specialized expertise is needed.
The Voter Engagement & GOTV Working Group leads NTMLA’s efforts to increase voter participation and strengthen civic engagement across the North Texas Muslim community. The group coordinates voter registration, voter education, community outreach, and Get Out the Vote initiatives, while developing strategies to reach, inform, and mobilize voters ahead of key elections. It also helps organize volunteers, community partnerships, and turnout efforts to ensure that eligible voters have the information and support they need to participate in the electoral process.
The Government Affairs & Advocacy Working Group leads NTMLA’s engagement with elected officials, government offices, and public institutions. The group helps identify policy priorities, coordinates meetings and advocacy efforts, builds and maintains relationships with decision-makers, and ensures that issues important to the North Texas Muslim community are communicated effectively at the local, state, and federal levels. It also tracks relevant government actions and helps organize NTMLA’s response and engagement when appropriate.
The Political Leadership Pipeline Working Group focuses on identifying, recruiting, and developing the next generation of Muslim political leaders and candidates across North Texas. The group builds a long-term leadership bench by connecting emerging leaders with mentorship, training, networks, and opportunities for public service, while helping prepare qualified individuals to pursue elected office, appointed positions, boards, commissions, and other civic leadership roles.
