How the North Texas Muslim Leadership Alliance evaluates candidates for office, and what each of our designations means.
Our process
The North Texas Muslim Leadership Alliance follows a rigorous endorsement process. Candidates are evaluated through interviews, questionnaires, independent research, member discussion, and committee review.
We assess candidates’ records, policy positions, responses to current events, legislative priorities, and goals for office in relation to the broader needs and concerns of our communities.
Our review also considers their engagement with constituents, accessibility, responsiveness, electoral viability, and the potential impact of our community’s support and resources within each race and district.
Drawing on this assessment, the Endorsements Committee makes recommendations that are then discussed and voted on by NTMLA leadership.
Our designations
NTMLA has formally endorsed the candidate following a comprehensive assessment of the criteria outlined above.
This designation reflects strong alignment with our community’s priorities and confidence in the candidate’s ability to advance them.
NTMLA is prepared to actively support the campaign through voter engagement, community outreach, fundraising, volunteering, and other appropriate efforts.
NTMLA views the candidate favorably and encourages voting for the candidate.
We are withholding a full endorsement because of substantive differences on significant issues or policy positions, or because of concerns related to other criteria outlined above.
This designation recognizes that the candidate’s election would advance important community goals, even as areas of disagreement or concern remain.
Support does not imply agreement with every position, and NTMLA will continue engaging the candidate on outstanding issues. This designation may be revisited as the election develops.
NTMLA has not made a formal commitment in the race at this time.
This should not necessarily be interpreted as opposition to any candidate.
In some races, the organization may continue its review or determine that taking a formal position is not appropriate.
