Dr. Ali Asgar H. Alibhai, a professor at the University of Texas at Dallas and chair of the North Texas Muslim Leadership Alliance’s Research & Public Education Working Group, was interviewed by NPR for a national report on faith in this year’s congressional campaigns.

Speaking after an interfaith forum in Dallas that brought together Christian church leaders and members of the Muslim community, Dr. Alibhai described how anti-Muslim rhetoric in Texas politics has affected his work.

"Living in Texas right now and seeing what's going on with Islamophobia right in my backyard has certainly made my job a little bit more challenging," he said. "But I'm ready for the challenge."

He told NPR that his relationships with Christian groups who share his interest in social justice have shaped his civic engagement. "The people that I found solidarity with," he said, "were often the faith groups here."
