Zeeshan Hafeez, founder of the North Texas Muslim Leadership Alliance, joined a panel at The Texas Tribune Festival in Austin on the rise of anti-Muslim rhetoric in Texas politics and what it means for Muslim communities across the state.
The conversation, moderated by The Texas Tribune, brought together Muslim Texans from across the political spectrum. Panelists described recent measures by state officials aimed at Muslim communities and spoke about the role of education and interfaith relationships in answering them.
"The average Muslim is your doctor. The average Muslim is your teacher. The average Muslim is your neighbor who is just trying to be a part of the American fabric," Hafeez told the audience.
